Welcome Sir Francis Drake families.
Hello and thank you for visiting.
I have created this page so that you can view the action images we took of you this year during your volleyball season.
By way of a quick introduction, I am Micheal Hall and I run Micheal Hall Photography, a Sacramento based, family run photography studio specializing in the highest quality portraits, team and action photography.
We maintain two websites - the one you are visiting now (www.vbpics.com) and our main studio website: www.michealhallphotography.com where you will find our family, senior portrait and wedding work.
We are also the NCVA's volleyball photography sponsors and travel the country photographing tournaments - I recognized a number of players from club volleyball
I was able to photograph both teams in action and have broken the images out by team below. Further, I have pre-sorted images by athlete, to make viewing as simple as possible.
I hope you enjoy the images and look forward to hearing back from you!
How the images are organized.
We have broken the images out not only by team, but by athlete as well - that way, you will not have to go through all of the hundreds of images, your images are grouped together to make for easier browsing and selection.
Simply scroll below to your team (JV or Varsity) and select your jersey number to see the images were able to capture of you in action.
WHAT IF THERE AREN'T VERY MANY PICTURES OF ME?
Though we followed the action of the ball, we were not necessarily able to get a lot of images of every athlete. We did our best to get great images of as many players as possible while also making sure we got great images of the athlete whose family commissioned us to photograph.
While photographing, we follow the action of the ball in play - the result is that those players that spend more time on the court and are in the middle of play while we are photographing will see more images than others.
For example, by nature of the position, the setter typically touches the ball each play. Because we follow the action of the ball and attempt to capture as many "touches" as we can, the setter usually has more images than other players on the team. This is not because we "like" setters more, it's simply the result of how we photograph volleyball - by following the ball for each touch.
Predesigned Collages
I have taken the time to create some suggested collage designs for as many athletes as possible for both the JV and Varsity teams.
These are suggestions to give you an idea of what is possible with the images.
If you would like to purchase any of the collage I have designed for you, just make a note of the name of the collage and let me know. Below, we have linked to our collage price document.
Varsity Images
To see your images, click your jersey number below.
Please note that the images presented in the gallery are NOT finished images. These images are straight from the camera and have not yet any of our standard adjustments applied.
Junior Varsity Images
To see your images, click your jersey number below.
Please note that the images presented in the gallery are NOT finished images. These images are straight from the camera and have not yet any of our standard adjustments applied.
Though I was commissioned to photograph the Varsity team, I also photographed as much of the JV team as possible. Unfortunately, I was only able to catch the last set of your match.

Reprint Prices
If you would like multiple prints of the same images, please let us know - same size reprints of an image are priced lower.
Why the "odd" sizes like 8x12 or 12x18?
Actually these sizes aren't odd - they are the same shape as the 4x6 print - simply scaled larger. This shape and these sizes come from the shape of the sensor in the cameras we use. The shape of the sensor, in turn, comes from the shape and size of 35mm film - the format professional digital cameras are based upon.
Likewise, sizes like 8x10 or 11x14 also came from the size and shape of film - large format film used prior to 35mm film. As a result, these sizes require that you cut a good amount of the image out to fit the image into that size.
When we photograph, to get best quality final prints, we compose the image in camera filling the frame with as much of the subject as possible. However, this often results in "parts" (like the ball or legs) being cutoff when cropping for 8x10 or 11x14, so we offer 8x12 and 12x18 at the same price. These sizes match the shape of the sensor and we can deliver prints without forcing a crop that doesn't look good.
Types of Collages
One of the most popular products we offer are our collages. Each year, we sell thousands of these to volleyball families around the country. We do this using custom software we have written. Unfortunately, this software does not run online, so we have to do things a little differently during the high school season.
We offer a number of different designs. Below are small icons of each collage design and the numbered positions where images go in the final design.

How to Order Collages
Go through your images and note those you like. Select a collage layout from the images above. Contact us and send us your image selections. If you would like to specify which images go where, use the numbers in the image positions to reference the location.
For example, for a five image collage you could do something like this:
5 Image Collage (#1)
Image #1: eastnicvvb-01_0002
Image #2: eastnicvvb-01_0035
etc. ...
Your collages also include the team name, athlete name, jersey number and year, so please include this information AS YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE IT ON THE COLLAGE.
Do we get to see a proof?
We will send you a low resolution, unadjusted proof prior to printing. The proof will reflect your image and text selection, as well as cropping of images, but will not show the final adjustments to color, contrast etc.
Following are some examples of the difference between collage proofs and the final, ready for printing, collages ...
As you can see, we take the time to make the images look their absolute best - we want you to be thrilled with the final result.
Collage Prices
You can find collage prices in this online pricing document.
Collage prices can be found on the second page of the documents.
COLLAGE PACKAGE SPECIALS
Please not that the price document references collage packages on the last page. Though these are usually for tournaments only, we will honor these packages - the reprints of the collage make for great Christmas gifts.
Feedback.
We would love to hear what you think (bad or good) about the images.
As photographers and artists, it is always interesting to me to hear what people think of the images, their likes and dislikes, etc. The only way for me to know if I am delivering what people like and if I have a broadly satisfying product is to hear from people directly, so I would appreciate any feedback you would share with us.
